WEEK 1–7

Week 1: June 11-15

Rocket Week and Introduction to Sportsmanship
Each camper will spend the week sanding and painting their own wooden rocket while being introduced to the behaviors that demonstrate sportsmanship. At the end of the week, the rockets will be installed with CO2 cartridges and launched up a cable to the top of the flag pole. A free ice cream will be awarded for any rocket that hits the top. Campers will also be rewarded for such efforts as best sanding, best painting and best rocket creation. Campers and counselors are encouraged to come to camp on Friday dressed as astronauts, stars, planets, etc!

Week 2: June 18-22

Rodeo Week and Personal Responsibility
This week coincides with the Reno Rodeo (the wildest, richest rodeo in the West!). Campers will be involved in various "rodeo-esque" activities, such as roping, arm wrestling, boot throwing, and riding the bucking barrel. We will modify the activities to include components of teamwork, and we will work with each camper to understand their roles and responsibilities as part of a team. For the week’s craft project, campers will be making lanyards. They LOVE this craft! Campers and counselors are encouraged to come to camp on Friday dressed as cowboys, cowgirls, and other rodeo folks!

Week 3: June 25-29

Carnival Week and Introduction to Teamwork
Campers will spend the week creating carnival game booths in preparation for "Carnival Day" on Friday, when they will play each other’s games. Winners at each booth will receive tickets that they can redeem for treats. Campers will spend the week practicing personal responsibility while creating their booths and while participating in the week’s athletic endeavors. Campers and counselors are encouraged to come to camp on Friday dressed in carnival clothes!

Week 4: July 2, 3, 5 & 6

America Week and Kindness
This week campers will enjoy some old-fashioned American picnic traditions, such as the classic egg toss, three-legged race, crab race, nickel scramble, wheelbarrow race, and sack race. The craft project for the week will be sand candles. Campers will be encouraged to consider how they can be kind to one another throughout the week. Campers and counselors are encouraged to come to camp on Thursday dressed in red, white, and blue!

Week 5: July 9-13

Pirate Week and Leadership
Campers will spend the week sanding and painting wooden swords to use in a pirate skit that they will create. On Friday they will take part in a treasure hunt, which will be organized by the counselors. During the week, all campers will have opportunities to talk about the roles and responsibilities of a leader, and to practice their leadership skills. Campers and counselors are encouraged to come to camp on Friday dressed as pirates! This is the favorite week of many campers.

Week 6: July 16-20

Jet Boat Week and Intrinsic versus Extrinsic Rewards
Each camper will spend this week sanding and painting a wooden boat. At the end of the week, the boats will be installed with CO2 cartridges and launched across the pool. Some boats perform stunts, others circle around the pool, and others jet directly across to the other side. Campers will have multiple opportunities to discuss and practice the joy that comes with intrinsic reward.

Week 7: July 23-27

Olympic Week and Sportsmanship Conclusion
In this, the final week of the summer, campers will demonstrate their athletic prowess and their sportsmanship through a series of Thisisit Ranch Day Camp Olympic events. On Friday, winners and participants will be awarded medals and ribbons based on points earned in up to 10 events, including archery, BB gun shooting for accuracy, baseball throw for distance/accuracy, basketball free throws, batting a softball for distance, catch and throw on the trampolines, distance run, goals scored by kicking a soccer ball, swimming races, and a timed obstacle course. In addition, campers will earn points for sportsmanship, teamwork, and leadership.
